Big Goings On…

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Hello all!

We have big goings on in Old Town this weekend!? As you know, I’m a proud member of the Old Town Boutique District.? Well, this weekend we are doing something special.? If you visit 10 out of the 19 member stores (I actually think you should visit all 19 because they are fabulous!) you will be registered to win $1,900 in gift certificates.? That is $100 in each store!? Just imagine all the wonderful things you can get.? Our stores range from baby gifts and maternity to indie jewelry designers to of-the-moment cool designers to antique silver, and of course sofas and antiques from Red Barn Mercantile.?

So come by this weekend and shop Old Town.? It will be lots of fun.? Oh, and several of the stores will be doing something a little extra.? As for us, we are going to continue to give a free gift with purchase of $25 or more!

The other thing about this weekend… it’s the last weekend to take advantage of 15% off any special order of upholstery goods.? That new sofa, chair and/or ottoman are waiting to be yours.? Side note – order now and it should be here by the holidays!

Hope to see you all this weekend!

Take care and enjoy the changing season,? Amy

PS – sorry no pics from the flea market!? Still not very good at this blogging thing, but I’m trying.

Flea Market

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Hello all,

What a great day!? I dearly love to go to the flea market.? It’s such a great experience.? The thrill of the hunt, the wonderfully quirky people, the seemingly endless rows of wonderful old stuff, add in?barbecue and the smell of Fall in the air and it’s a perfect day.

Mom, Preston, Baby James and I all hit the flea market today and boy did we find some really great stuff.? I don’t have pics yet, but may be able to put some up later.? However, at the rate that I blog the stuff may be in the store before I can get them up.? Let’s see what did we buy… we bought an old graphic wood sign with “Georgetown” on it, a couple of old rustic trunks, a really special shipping crate that will make a great coffee table, a super cool oak cabinet with lots of drawers – great for a side table or desk top, a funky truquoise stepback, a small treasure trove of odds and ends,?and the thing that I am most excited about… an old traveling pigeon coop.? It even has the paper id tags of the owner who shipped the crate.? Mom and I are going to get to work on Monday and should be able to bring in some of the new things by next Saturday.? Hopefully sooner.

On another note, I don’t think I’ve mentioned this yet, but Preston had her baby!? Yes, a new member of the Red Barn Mercantile family is born.? James was born on August 29 at 12:37 am.? He weighed in at 8 lbs 7 oz and was 21 inches long.? Mom and baby are gleefully at home enjoying each other tremendously.? James was a wonderful little antiquer today.? Three weeks old and already at it.? That’s my kind of guy!

Preston can’t wait to get back and we can’t wait to have her.? So, come by soon and say hello and congratulations to the new mommy and see all the fantastic new stuff we bought today.

Take care!? Amy

WHOOPS!

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Hello all,

I just got a call from the very kind and very understanding Alexandria Voter Registrar’s office.? It turns out that this weekend’s promotion is a little slippery.? So, let me fix it.? Please come in and register to vote.? We are offering this service to make it easy for you to register.? You DO NOT have to register to vote to get the free gift with purchase or to register to win the gift certificate.

Apparently it’s a class 1 misdemeanor if we offer you an incentive to vote.? Soap should not be (and will not be) your incentive.? Civic duty and love of Country should be.? (Too preachy…?)

I’m sorry for not having done my research well enough!? I hope you will still come by and revel in all the excitement of the upcoming election – no matter what candidate you support!

Thanks for understanding!? Take care,? Amy

Register to Vote and Register to Win

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Hello!

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I last wrote anything!? Shame on me.? My apologies for being such a dud.? I hope you will forgive me when you learn about all the great things we have going on this month.

First, on September 1 we celebrated our first anniversary.? Hurrah!? We made it through the first year.? And what a wonderful year it has been.? What lessons I have learned!? I hope to take those lessons and create a better store and a better shopping experience for you.? To thank you all for being such great customers and friends this past year, we are extending August’s offer of 15% off all upholstery special orders thru the month of September.? So, come on in and order that new sofa so it arrives in time for the holidays!?

We also have several floor samples still waiting to go to a good home….

Second, this weekend, September 20 & 21, we are having a voter awareness event.? If you live in Virginia and have not registered to vote, now’s your chance to register and shop at the same time.? Stop by and register to vote at Red Barn Mercantile.? While at the store register to win a $250 gift certificate good for anything in the store – old and new.? As if that wasn’t enough fun, we are giving away a free gift with purchase.? If you spend $25 and show proof of voter registration?in any city or county?you will receive a free gift…?

Vote/Feel Good

I’m not going to preach to you all about voting.? You know how important it is.? This election is one for the history books.? I hope you will be a part of it too!? Come by the store this weekend – and no matter what party you support – show your pride in America and feel good.

Finally, the Old Town Boutique District web site has launched!? Visit www.oldtownboutiquedistrict.com to learn more about us.? Most of us are going to have happy hours all over Old Town Wednesday, September 24 from 5 – 8 pm in order to celebrate.? Come by and see what’s new and have a drink on us.? Hopefully we will have all our Halloween decorations out by then.? Keep your fingers crossed!

I think that’s all we have going on this month.? Whew!? It’s a very exciting time for us.? Fall is my favorite season and I will be celebrating with abandon.? I hope you will be too!

Take care and see you soon,? Amy
