World Homeless Day is observed every year on October 10. The purpose of this day is to bring to focus the issues of homelessness and inadequate housing. With this in mind, we'll be supporting a few local organizations that provide assistance to those experiencing homelessness.

October 5: Founded in 1977, New Hope Housing is an innovative, award-winning non-profit agency in Northern Virginia committed to finding creative and lasting solutions to end the cycle of homelessness by offering homeless men, women and children the services they need to change their lives and succeed. And each of those success stories adds to a stronger, healthier community for all.

October 12: Wesley Housing provides safe, quality and affordable housing to residents across the Washington DC metropolitan area. Named one of the top 50 affordable housing developers in the country, they're committed to cultivating supportive communities where families can build up their lives.

October 19: At Carpenter’s Shelter, they believe housing is key to stability. They offer shelter and comprehensive services for children, women, and men experiencing homelessness with the ultimate goal of transitioning them into permanent, sustainable housing. Their mission is focused on the most under-resourced residents of our community.

October 26: Community Lodgings' mission is to lift families from homelessness and instability to independence and self-sufficiency through transitional housing, affordable housing, and youth education programs.

Once again, we’re thrilled to play a small part in supporting these incredible organizations and we hope you’ll take the time to learn a little bit more about each of them. And be sure to shop at Red Barn Mercantile and Penny Post on Wednesdays to show your support!
