Hiring a Buyer

Red Barn Mercantile is hiring a Buyer. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced retail buyer to support a steadily growing business in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria. This Buyer must have experience curating and procuring products in a retail and/or boutique setting. They will be expected to manage all vendor relations for this store as well as collaborate with a diverse group of leaders within the organization as a whole. This is a Part-Time position with a lengthy onboarding that may invest up to full-time hours for the first 3-6 months. This position is remote eligible, and also requires a keen understanding of Red Barn Mercantile’s store layout and merchandising parameters. The Buyer reports to the President of Stone Soup Holding Co., LLC.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in retail buying

  • 1-3 years of experience in retail sales

  • Experience contributing individually and as part of a team

  • Strong Communication and Relationship building skills


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze sales data

  • Research, identify, and suggest new product ideas to the Owner.

  • Own the buying process from start to finish

  • Serve as the liaison between the store(s) and its vendors. 

  • Manage product pricing based on vendor expectations, sellthrough, and other factors.

  • Collaborate with other Buyers to explore more efficient ways of operating within the scope of this role.

  • Ability to interpret data and reporting and use it to influence decision making


Salary begins at $20/hr
